In the early 1990s, I was accepted into one of Bob Moore's courses. The work with energy exercises and the special forms of meditative work that Bob passed on were something new and different for me. But it felt meaningful, and I was motivated.
After I had been following Bob's classes for a few years, I started having some problems with my knees. I had some mild pain in my knees, but it was severe enough that I went to the doctor. My knees were X-rayed and examined, but nothing was found.
Shortly after that, I was at one of Bob's semi-annual courses. Energy work is related to physical health, so during a break I dared to go up to Bob to ask him for advice. I explained to him about the problems with my knees and asked if he had any idea what it could be related to. Bob replied: "It's because of your life situation". I was a little unsure of what he meant and therefore asked: "My life situation... You mean my place of residence, my work, my family circumstances...?" Bob's answer was short: "Yes". And since it was about important existential matters, we agreed that I could come to his place for a conversation when the course ended.
In that conversation, he explained to me, among other things, that the knees (and legs) are related to the way we support ourselves in life. To what extent do we support ourselves and support our deeper needs and potentials? Do we dare to make the necessary choices in life and act in accordance with what we feel and think and long for? If we do not support ourselves enough, we limit ourselves. Such a limitation is reflected in the energy system. The free flow of energy is inhibited.
In my specific case, the stagnation in my life situation had led to a stagnation or inhibition of the free flow of etheric energy through the knees. The inhibition was so far only visible in the etheric, and therefore nothing was yet visible in the physical and on the X-rays. However, if I did not take this seriously, it would probably lead to physical problems with the knees at a later date.
It was the first time I truly and practically understood that the exercise work with Bob Moore was not just work with the energy system. No, it was a deeply existential work that was not only directed at our health and the etheric, but touched the whole of existence. The work with the energy system related directly and concretely to my choices in life, my courage to stand by myself and my courage to express myself – also through actions.
Bob gave me some exercises that would help release the stagnant etheric energy in and around my knees. We also talked more specifically about how my current life situation was limiting and that I needed to make crucial and transformative choices about it if I was going to take self-development and myself seriously.
The conversation and the experience led to major existential changes in my life within a few years: I moved from the city where I had established myself. My working life changed, and so did my family situation. It was a scary, confusing and confronting process. But it was also opening and beneficial – and led to completely new possibilities. And it gave me a greater understanding of the potential of working ”on the pillow”.
The greater self-insight that working with energy exercises and meditation can provide is not a separate issue. Insights must be translated into life. And although it may be frightening and confronting here and now, in the long term it can lead to greater joy, freedom and abundance. We must have the courage to unfold our potentials as best we can.
For the record, I would like to emphasize that there can be many reasons why the body aches or becomes ill. Illness can, for example, be rooted in hereditary factors or be caused by environmental influences. The above blog post is simply a specific example of how blockages in the energy system can affect the physical body.
