WHEN THE WORLD WAKES UP

audio file · 9 minutes

It's banal. We've all experienced it. It's so common that we can forget that it's something special. It happens all over the world. All the time. It's possibly the most important factor in world history. And yet we can easily overlook it.

We're talking about something very simple: the joy of doing something for others.

In his very special book, The Empathic Civilization, futurist Jeremy Rifkin retells world history in a new way: as a movement toward gradually increasing empathy. Towards mutual kindness and togetherness.

It is a complex movement. Which does not go in a straight line. World history is also full of horror, of infinite amounts of suffering.
Yet, as Rifkin describes it, it is also an unfolding of the heart's possibilities.

A movement that we may now be able to accelerate.
As humanity, we may be on the threshold of an empathetic leap. A necessary empathetic leap.

This little guide follows and examines the empathetic act of doing something for others in everyday life, and points to the deep joy that lies as a possibility in the small self-neglects of everyday life.

I have taken these thoughts to my 4th grade class. It is so exciting to talk to them about what happens to society (family, class, school, city, etc.) when there are some who put themselves aside for the community. We talk about it daily and quietly pay tribute to those who have the energy.
    Start with the children.

    Dear Peter

It's like that because... you have a craft, a gastronomic craft that you are happy about and that is close to your heart❤️. On top of that, you can make other people happy with your lovely food, bread and hospitality. That's exactly what makes it so special and being able to give from your craft/heart is a gift and joy in itself. Hope it makes sense🌸.

Oh yes, that's a reassuring thought... I really hope that the world becomes more empathetic - without an expectation of getting anything in return. I see it in one of my networks that I get into a lot, but I don't experience it so much in the "normal busy everyday life, where people are in a hurry - on the go - even in the queue at the supermarket - the presence of the other is absent... But so wonderful that much more focus is placed on empathy... From ♥️ Thank you 🙏🏼

    Dear Peter
Thank you for paying attention to the way we are together.

Your words come on the day the wise men came to Bethlehem.

Looking in the Gospel of Thomas and finding
    No. 25
Jesus said: “Love your brother as yourself! Take care of him as the apple of your eye!”

    Most affectionately
    Helle Mee 👋🏼♥️🌟
    mutual kindness and solidarity.

A completely wonderful and uplifting “meditation” where the exaltation of the banal and the often spontaneous expressions of life are given so much meaning and significance. All your lovely examples, which really cover a wide range of the sensory spectrum, are so good to be reminded of. Thank you. I really want to save this one. And share
