TOWARDS THE SOURCE OF CREATIVITY
Meditation and creativity with
audio file · 130 minutes
Creativity is a state and a process that – ideally – involves the whole of us, the whole person.
We cannot therefore arrive at creativity just by talking about it.
It is not primarily something you talk about, it is something you do, it is a way of being and an activity.
The useful books on creativity are therefore not primarily those that attempt to analyze the subject. When we turn to an analytical side of ourselves, we are rarely very creative. Analysis and ingenuity have difficulty meeting. When one is present, the other is gone – and vice versa.
Examples of inspiring books about creativity include theatre educator and author Keith Johnstone's famous Improvisation. And Julia Cameron's The Artists Way. Or Richard Rhodes How to Write. All books that don't spend much time on analysis, but first and foremost suggest a wide range of activities that explore being creative in different ways. And suggest ways that are creative themselves.
The guided meditation Towards the source of creativity with Peter Høeg is not a typical guided tour, not even typical for Peter. It is too long for that, and it contains too much information.
It is a hybrid, a creative mix between a guided meditation that describes how one can activate one's human wholeness, bringing the greatest possible part of oneself into play in the creative process, and concrete suggestions that point towards the creative process itself.
In this way, the meditation is reminiscent of the books mentioned above by suggesting something one do. By suggesting that you approach your creative process as if it were a practice program.
The guide begins by describing the pentagon, the five main gateways to our human essence, the body, the breath, the empathic heart feelings, consciousness and creativity.
This description is not, as is usually the case, rotated so that the five gates are seen, so to speak, from all sides at once. In Towards the source of creativity They are seen from a creative perspective. It describes how the fundamental creativity that is a characteristic of everything human and indeed of the entire cosmos, is found in all five gates. How all basic human expressions of life are in themselves creative.
From here, the meditation moves towards the question of the reasons we may have for wanting to make room for our creativity. About the joy of creative flows, about the way in which we can relate to, and perhaps process, fundamental traumas through creation. And about the resistance we may encounter in these processes, a resistance we collectively call the inner judge.
The meditation further explores the question of how to manage a talent, how to balance desire and spontaneity, and how it is just as important to be able to let go of creative flows as it is to be able to access them.
Towards the source of creativity is both a direct instruction on how to put a greater part of oneself creatively at stake, and a long series of suggestions on how to provoke and elicit the flow of ideas. And how to meet and handle the resistance that, Peter says, is an inevitable – and indispensable – part of deeper creative processes. And of human development processes in general.
Great to hear about the creativity coming from your mouth.
I want to hear it again. Take the audio file to me.
Thank you very much.
It is a joy to feel your words. Thank you for practicing with us here, and continue to enjoy.
We will make sure to pass your words on to Peter.
