MANDALA, MEDITATION AND DREAMS

July 22 • at 4:30 PM - July 26 • at 3:00 PM
Udsigt fra Rødegaards udeområder

Summer retreat at Rødegaard in Mols Bjerge

- with Hanneli Ågotsdatter and Peter Høeg

The word mandala – which actually means circle in Sanskrit – is a term for patterns that lie behind or beneath our normal reality.
To make these patterns conscious is to discover both how refined and helpful they are – and how, on the other hand, they can keep us in habits and in certain ways of encountering our surroundings and other people.
Mandala practice is therefore largely about discovering habits – to strengthen the good ones and to loosen and perhaps let go of the less good ones.

You can say almost the same about dreams – working with them can expand our self-understanding and contact with our unconscious – and make our reality bigger.

Both mandala work and dream interpretation can provide intense support and inspiration for meditative processes – and for our work with our relationships with others and the outside world.
On this retreat we will bring these three approaches, mandala practice, dream interpretation and meditation together.
All three forms of practice unfold best in a space of cordiality – which we will be careful to open together.

The daily rhythm of the retreat is approximately like this:

The morning session will be introspective and mostly quiet, typically with sitting and sometimes walking meditations, different approaches to yoga, a body scan and often a writing practice (which, like the teaching and atmosphere in general, will be free from performance).

After lunch, there will be a long break to rest, go for walks, and otherwise have time to process the inner processes that are both a welcome and inevitable part of the intense form that a retreat is.

The afternoon stretch will often be more dynamic, outgoing and creative.
We have a fixed tradition that we call 'dancing after lunch.' And on this retreat we will also include the use of colors and drawing as a way to work with both mandalas and dreams.

There will also, as on all our retreats, be stretches of silence – silence has become a precious and rare commodity in our society – and it can be an important aid in hearing some of our quieter inner voices.
