Inner Democracy – Between Heaven and Earth
We live in a world defined by clear distinctions. When we turn inward, some of these boundaries begin to dissolve. Inner experiences are often subtle and don’t unfold in a fixed order. In practices like this one, it’s helpful to stay open to a process that is individual and evolving.
Just as there is outer democracy – where all voices are heard and influence shared – there is also an inner democracy. The more we are in touch with different aspects of ourselves, the more clarity, empathy, and balance we can bring into our lives and into society.
This meditation, Crown to Root, is a journey through the body, linking all the chakras from the crown of the head down to the pelvic floor. It invites awareness into both the physical and the subtle: from thoughts and expression, through the heart and boundaries, to desire, sexuality, and our grounding in the material world.
In this inner landscape, no part is more important than another. Love and digestion, creativity and sexuality, spirit and survival – all are heard, all belong.
Practicing this embodied listening helps us move through the day with greater self-awareness. Inner democracy doesn’t mean every part decides equally – but that every part is heard. In each moment, we can let the part most needed gently guide us – whether it is the heart, the body, or the clear mind.
This exercise is part of the contemplative training offered to compassionate master practitioners at the Center for Systems Awareness.
