Who identify primarily with their biological male gender.

Terms such as feminine and masculine are, today more than ever before, up for debate.

What is important and certainly both necessary and positive in the long run.

But such an exchange lies elsewhere, and deals with something a little different than meditation.

As we move inward, we sooner or later – and rather sooner than later – encounter two fundamental forms of consciousness.

An outgoing, focused, action-oriented and project-ready person.

And a resting, spacious, wide-ranging, heart-based one.

It is these two that we call yin and yang.

The convenience of these two terms is that they keep us free from any disagreements about male and female.

The yin-yang symbol originates from Chinese Taoist-influenced philosophy and spiritual practice. Yin and yang are at once opposites and complementary, unity and separation, resting stillness and eternal movement.

All of these relationships are present intuitively in taijitu, which is the more technically and historically correct term for the yin yang sign.

In our meditative practice, and in our lives, we need to relate to these two forms of consciousness again and again.

They are two ways of being in the world: the acting and the wisely waiting, the precisely focused and the open, all-pervading, defocused.

In order to move towards feeling more whole as a human being, we must work on discovering the qualities of the other gender within ourselves. Although the majority of people identify with their biological sex, in terms of consciousness we are not just one gender. We all have both genders, all genders, within us as possibilities.

When we slowly discover and unfold the possibilities of the opposite sex within us – what Jung called opposite-sex integration – we are freed from limiting habits.

Meditatively, we have the opportunity to experience yin and yang dancing within us – and sometimes starting to merge together.

This, says Taoism, is the path towards true unity.

Photo: Aastik Maurya, Unsplash

[230
235,227,212
337
143
193
173
post-31405","exercise","type-exercise","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","focus-emotionel-balance","focus-indadlytten","focus-indre-balance-og-ligevaegt","person-peter-hoeeg","format-lydfil","practice_category-guidede-meditationer","position-siddende","varighed-kategori-10-20-minutter
17

["GET
